Stowe

What can be said about this iconic town that has not already been written? Stowe is very much a ski town first and foremost, it is a very outdoor centric community, it is the iconic New England destination. For such a small town, it has an abundance of restaurants, lodging options, galleries and bike shops and recreational opportunities. That is the easy summary of the town. Digging deeper one will find an eclectic mix of global professionals, strong community participants, second home owners and schools that rank tops in the State. Stowe is akin to Cabernet Sauvignon’s rise to dominance. The most simple and primordial reason is that its inhabitants are highly adaptable.

Secondary, but just as important, is that despite 65% of the population being from out of state, the town retains an inimitable “Stowe ” character, nuanced with hints of the best of New England origin. Stowe is durable and the familiarity and marketability of the Stowe name has an irresistible lure to people from all over the world who dream of living or spending time here

Waterbury was a town that most people would not even stop to buy gas 25 years ago. Fast forward to year 2020- Ben and Jerry’s main factory is not only located in Waterbury but also Vermont’s largest tourist attraction. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters occupies multiple buildings in the downtown area. Darn Tough Socks is expanding and adding a 50,000 square foot production area here. The decades-in-the-making Main Street reconstruction project is halfway completed and will remake 1 mile of downtown from sewer to lights modernizing a street that was lacking. Combine those ingredients with a 30 minute drive to Burlington, Montpelier and 4 major ski areas, add a dash of outdoor recreation, trails and a hockey rink and top it off with killer food and drink and you have one of the hottest towns in the state! It’s a good place to get gas now

Waterbury

Morristown

It is called Morristown, Morrisville, MoVille, depending on who you ask. For as long as I can remember, Morristown has always been classified as the “up and coming” town, but like the US Men’s soccer team, it could never reach the upper echelons. But for those who have stuck with it, Morristown has arrived! Beginning with the completion of the Route 100 bypass in 2014 which diverted truck traffic, downtown has been on a vertical trajectory upward. This next statement will be met with great debate but currently the town has the best food concentration in Vermont! North Country Cakes (purely addictive), Nepalese Restaurant (the real deal and inside a gas station), Lost Nation Brewing (best outdoor scene), Black Diamond BBQ (more than just BBQ,winner of best new restaurant in Vermont 2017 by 7 Days), El Toro (actually real Tex/Mex in VT), Pizza on Main (voted best pizzeria in VT by 7 Days), Siam Valley Thai (finally sticky rice in the area) all contribute to this culinary revival. The newly constructed “Rail Trail” has been a huge draw with bikers, walkers, dogs. The Morristown Town Forest has incredible hiking, and backcountry skiing without the crowds. The mountain biking is sensational with many unmapped trails and some that will put a scare in you if that is what you are looking for. Real estate wise you will get a lot more for your dollar in Morristown than in neighboring Stowe but it’s close enough to access all of Stowe’s amenities. Morristown shelters a diverse population from Burlington commuters to second home owners and has a local vibe. Bottom line: If you are looking for a town that is now just hitting its stride and has lots to offer then look no further.
